Time Flies

BusyBoy turned nine last night..at 10:03pm.  Unfortunately, it's his weekend at his father's so I had to just sing Happy Birthday to him in my head but I've been reminiscing and thinking about him the past two days.

How did the little baby that I rocked and cuddled with as a baby become such a grown up little man so fast?

Here he is at his first birthday..

And here is my little man singing at the Holiday Concert at the middle school this year..

He was only the second person in my life that I was able to see myself in until I was found by my natural mom.  Truly magical.  I'm so looking forward to finding out what kind of adult he is going to become someday.

In Like A Lion...

I can't complain...it's been four months since the big October snowstorm that dumped a foot of snow on the ground and kidnapped our electricity for six days.  Since then we've had a small storm, but other than that, nothing.   However, I have to admit, I was hoping that we'd get through the rest of this winter (less than a month to go...hooray!!)without another plowable snow.

What the weatherman said would be 1-3 inches of snow in my area back on Tuesday has turned into 8-12 predicted inches by tomorrow.

Damn.

Bad Blogger!

Sigh...I know, I know...I've been MIA for a couple weeks.  I've been busy though!  I think we've figured out our colors for the wedding.  That's assuming we don't change our minds about getting married this coming October or November.

I've been trying a few different flowers out for the favors.  Our plan is to get several small tins, that look kind of like flower pots.  Then we'll attach magnets to the back of the flowers and attach them to the tins, that will be filled with candy.

Here are the flowers.  The one on the left is the back side...and the side that Mr. Wonderful likes better..lol.  The right one is the front.

BusyBoy's ninth birthday is fast approaching and this year, we're getting him golf clubs.  I got MW his clubs last year in June and he's been going out at least once a week this winter since we haven't had any significant snow since October (!!) and it's been relatively warm for New England.  BB has expressed an interest in going out to the course too and so we borrowed MW's boss' son's clubs for BB to practice with.  Surprisingly, he's been doing really well, and is happy to have some Guy Time without the "girls" (his words..hahaha).

We're having his party at the mall at the Glow-In-The-Dark indoor mini-golf place and I've been working on my own little addition to his present.

A cover for his driver!

It's a rough draft...but this is what the finished product will look like.  I found the pattern here on Lion Brand's website.

Tummy Troubles and Assorted Whatnot

Not feeling up to par today…I suppose it could just be a “case of the Mondays” (ten points for anyone who can name that movie quote) but I seriously thought I was going to have to pull over on the way into work and lose the coffee that I had had to drink this morning.  I’ve been sipping water since 7am when I got here and it seems to be helping a little.

Okay Christina, stop being gross..lol.

Busy weekend…and sadly, not much crochet work got done.  We hosted my family on Saturday for a birthday celebration for my a-mom…mmmm…Belgian waffles with whipped cream, walnuts, bananas, blueberries and syrup..so good!  (Although, maybe my body is telling me today that I overdid it..lmao).  Then yesterday was eaten up with housework (Boooo) and chauffeuring The Littles around.

I did get a fair amount of reading done though.  My friend L had invited me to join her book club that she’s been a part of for almost five years and I finally got the chance to go Friday night.

The book was Agatha Christie’s “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” and while I’d only ever read “Murder on the Orient Express” by her, I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it for the most part.

Next month’s selection is "The Virgin of Small Plains" by Nancy Pickard.  I started reading it on my Kindle last night and I’m 25% into it.  I know it’s early but so far I love it!

Off The Beaten Path

I was knocked back down a peg by one of my friends at work.  I got an email from my ex, asking what my vacation plans were for August so his wife could plan her time around it.  I am ashamed to admit that I immediately wanted to respond and say something snarky about needing that information in February…and oh, by the way, what about that $6K in back child support you owe BB?

Sigh.

My friend said to think about it.  “Really, wasn’t it courteous of him to ask you in advance instead of telling you after the fact?”

Gulp.  Yes.  I guess it was.  I think I get so caught up in the past and the horrid way he has spoken to me in previous emails that I often jump to the conclusion that every email will be like that.

I bit my tongue and responded that I would work around whatever week they chose if I could and left it at that.

Now, about that $6K?  Sigh.  I know…I know…still biting my tongue.

In other news, MW and I were able to spend yesterday hanging out, just the two of us.  I had thought that I was taking my mother to her colonoscopy appointment and had taken the day off.  Ummm, yeah, found out on Saturday that it’s not until the 27th.  Whoopsie!  But I had to use the rolled over vacation day from last year anyway and jumped at the chance to chill out and enjoyed a long four day weekend at home.  Yesterday was a breezy 50 degree day here in Massachusetts and we went for a hike at a state park in Paxton.

The below picture is of the first (very steep and rocky) path..got a good workout in at least!

We also spent a good part of the weekend, when not chauffeuring PP to two sleepovers (my social butterfly..lol), talking about the wedding.  We are still discussing Harrington Farm, but now we’re adding the Chocksett Inn into the mix.

So many choices!   I just want to figure out the freaking date already!

Thankfully MW works from home every day so he will be doing a bit more of the legwork and phone calls that need to be made.

The good thing about the Inn is that it’s cheaper and we’d get more bang for our buck.

Did I mention, SO MANY CHOICES?

Afghan for PreteenPea

Been giving myself a break from wedding thoughts and began an afghan for PP yesterday during the Superbowl.  Sadly, the Patriots didn't win, but I did get a lot accomplished!  Just a simple Granny Square pattern, alternating Red Heart Bonbon Print and Black....what do you think?

Still have several rounds left to go, but it'd be a respectable lapghan right now.

Easing On Down The Road

What an easy week this is going to be!  I’m working from home on Thursday and am taking Friday off because the kids don’t have school (some sort of Teacher Professional Development Day, being made up now due to the Halloween snowstorm that paralyzed my town) as well as Monday so I can bring my mother for a colonoscopy.  If that’s not easy peasy enough, I talked to my manager today and he agreed to change my hours from 8-5 to 7:30-4:30!

So incredibly happy today…and to top it off, my ex actually sent in child support for the first time in weeks so that’s a help.  Not much money, but when he’s in arrears to the tune of over $6,000, every little bit helps.  BusyBoy is growing at an alarming rate and trying to keep sneakers on his feet for more than a month before he outgrows them is getting to be a huge challenge..lol.

Speaking of BB, he decided that he wanted to go to our LYS yesterday and pick out his own yarn so he can make something once he’s got the hang of crocheting.  He’s been super cute the past few days, making lonnnnnnng chains and decorating his room with them.  I was trying to help him the other day when he was getting frustrated but it appears that my ex’s wife has a different way of chain stitching so it might be a bit of a learning curve to show him “my” way.  I'm considering just sending the yarn with him this weekend so he can work on it with her and doesn’t get confused so early in the game.
